How text comparison works
Text Compare places two versions side by side and marks the parts that changed. It is intended for revisions of prose, notes, product descriptions, translations, simple configuration files, and similar text. Processing takes place locally in your browser.
Word comparison or line comparison?
Word comparison is usually best for sentences and paragraphs because it isolates changed words and punctuation. Line comparison treats each complete line as a unit, which is more useful for lists, code snippets, logs, or configuration files.
Version A: The project starts on Monday. Version B: The project starts on Tuesday.
Word mode focuses on “Monday” and “Tuesday”. Line mode marks the complete line as changed.
When should I use Text Compare?
- Review two document drafts before accepting edits.
- Check whether a product description or website paragraph was changed.
- Compare source and revised translations.
- Inspect simple code or configuration changes by line.
- Verify copied notes when formatting may have shifted.

Privacy and practical limits
The two texts are compared in JavaScript on your device. They are not uploaded for the tool operation or stored as server-side documents. Very large texts still depend on your browser and device memory, so split unusually large files into sensible sections if the page becomes slow.
Frequently asked questions
What is a text diff?
A diff is a view of the differences between two versions. It shows additions, removals, or changed passages.
Should I compare by words or lines?
Use words for prose and lines for structured or line-based content.
Can I compare long texts?
Yes, within the practical memory limits of your browser. Breaking very large documents into sections can make review easier.
Does TextUnicorn store my text?
No. The comparison runs locally and TextUnicorn does not create a server-side copy of your input.
